Understand Ethnic Identity Development and Increase Your Racial Literacy
| Course Number: | ESD121047 |
| Course Title: | Understand Ethnic Identity Development and Increase Your Racial Literacy |
| Course Description: | Understanding where others are in their ethnic identity development and becoming aware of our own level of ethnic identity development helps us to better appreciate the tension that exists in our intercultural relationships. This knowledge is a great tool in assisting us in navigating difficult conversations around race and helps us to develop skills to effectively work across cultures. In this interactive workshop participants will learn models of ethnic identity development, use case vignettes to develop strategies for working with ethnically diverse populations, and engage in discourse around dynamics of difference. This training intends to support tobacco prevention and control program contractors in their work with diverse communities. By learning how to have difficult conversations about race and culture, contractors will be better able to work with and provide services to a wide range of culturally diverse communities. Caprice Hollins is a licensed clinical psychologist who has over 15 years of experience providing mental health services, facilitating workshops and teaching graduate courses as an adjunct professor at several local universities including University of Washington. She joined Seattle Public Schools as the first Director of Equity and Race Relations where she supported the education mission of the district to dismantle institutional racism. She is a founding member of Cross Cultural Connections. Participants will be on their own for lunch. |
