| Course Description: | The results of the 2008 Healthy Youth Survey (HYS) are in! Over 211,000 students in 1,200 schools across the state participated in the survey. Come learn what they had to say and how you can use the survey results. This workshop will focus on where to find your Healthy Youth Survey results and what you can do with them, including: • An overview of local report results and guidance on how to read them. We will take a brief walk through your reports, show you what’s in them, and how to understand the results **; • Instruction on how to access and use the new HYS website, AskHYS.net. We will provide a demonstration of the website and explain its different components, including the pre-formatted reports and the data query system; and, • Information on how to communicate results and ways to use your HYS results. We will practice talking about your HYS results and provide new ideas and resources to help you share your HYS results with a variety of audiences. HYS is a survey of students in grades 6, 8, 10 and 12. It’s conducted in schools every two years and collects information on student attitudes and behaviors on a variety of health-related topics, including physical activity and nutrition, health status, school climate, intentional and unintentional injury behaviors, alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, as well as multiple risk and protective factors contributing to risky behaviors. Members of the HYS Joint Planning Committee will present, along with representatives from RMC Research Corporation: • Eric Einspruch, Senior Research Associate – RMC Research • Jennifer Lembach, Research Associate – RMC Research • Linda Becker, Prevention Research Manager – Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse, DSHS • Diane Pilkey, Epidemiologist – Washington State Department of Health • Susan Richardson, Research Investigator - Washington State Department of Health • Dixie Grunenfelder, SAP Program Supervisor – Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. ** Participants should bring their local HYS results reports with them to the workshop. |
