| Course Description: | Community health professionals, ATOD professionals, counselors, and educators need to present in a variety of settings. In this workshop, you'll learn and practice techniques that will ensure your comfort and success in front of any group and enable you to engage any audience through more confident public speaking. By the end of this training, participants will have enhanced their effectiveness as a speaker by developing and delivering an effective 'twenty second commercial'; devising effective responses to resistance or negativity to a message; crafting and modeling a dynamic opening for a formal community presentation; and clarifying what steps you must take to appear truly professional as a speaker. Specific examples related to tobacco prevention work such as motivating community, parents, schools and students through presentation will be a significant part of this workshop. Guila Muir is principal of Guila Muir & Associates, a Seattle-based firm specializing in developing professionals' facilitation, presentation and training skills, and a well-known presentation skills specialist who has trained thousands of people on an international level. Lunch will be provided. |
