| Course Title: | Understanding the Mysteries of the Teenage Brain |
| Course Description: | It is the mystery of mysteries; the unpredictable and sometimes incomprehensible moods and behaviors of the American teenager. Recent neuroscience research reveals that the brain is undergoing dramatic upheaval and change in adolescence. Throughout the teen years, the vulnerability of the developing brain presents risks and challenges coupled with tremendous capacity for growth. You are invited to participate in this hands-on, fascinating presentation on the teenage brain, a work in progress! • Gain insight into the mysteries of teen behaviors by exploring key findings of the development and workings of the adolescent brain. • Apply this information in practical ways to effectively work with challenges inherent in these developing years, such as: impulsive behavior; difficulty with decision making, problem solving and determining consequences; moodiness, miscommunication; quickness to anger; dangerous risk taking (including alcohol, tobacco and other drugs), and depression. • Learn positive ways to communicate with and stay connected to teens. • Experience effective teaching strategies designed to engage the brain. • Share this information to empower teens to cope with the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities of this important time. • Receive a manual filled with information, resources and strategies. Presenter Victoria Tennant, M.Ed., is an educational consultant with 36 years of teaching experience, including 10 years as a classroom teacher.
